General Information
Colorado MUN is a statewide, teacher-run network of more than sixty high schools that host and attend Model United Nations conferences. Our goal is to help students practice diplomacy, research, public speaking, and leadership while engaging with global issues.
Only school-based teams with a faculty sponsor may participate. Students cannot register individually. Each school’s sponsor serves as the official point of contact and ensures that the team follows our policies.
Conference invitations are posted on our website, www.coloradomodelun.org, and shared through the sponsors’ email list. Invitations usually go live about one month before each event.
For Students
No. All participants must be part of a school team with a faculty sponsor.
You can start one! Steps:
1. Find a faculty sponsor (teacher or staff member).
2. Get approval through your school’s activities or student life office.
3. Have your sponsor email lcarmichael@kentdenver.org to join the sponsors’ list.
4. Recruit team members. We have specific beginner-friendly training conferences in September, but beginners are welcome at all conferences throughout the year.
No experience is required. All conferences welcome beginners, and many schools hold training sessions to help new delegates prepare.
For Sponsors
Sponsors are responsible for:
Registering and paying for delegates (students may not register themselves).
Coordinating logistics: permission slips, transportation, medical info, and communication with hosts.
Ensuring a qualified adult is on campus for the full conference day (usually 8:30–3:30).
Serving as the school’s point of contact for Colorado MUN.
Expect about one Saturday per month for conferences (8:30–3:30) conferences, a few hours monthly for team organization, plus time for team meetings to help students prepare.
Colorado MUN is an informal, teacher-run organization and does not provide stipends. Remuneration for sponsors is at the discretion of each school, but we strongly believe sponsors should be adequately paid by their school for the time they spend organizing, coaching, and supervising Model UN events. Model UN is an amazing program that schools should support!
The registration fee is $15 per delegate, payable to the host school. Schools are responsible for paying for all registered delegates after the add/drop deadline.
Each school must provide a faculty sponsor and/or district-approved chaperone who:
Remains on campus for the full conference day.
Has access to student emergency contacts and medical information.
Checks in the delegation and ensures payment is complete.
Ensures all their students make it to and from the event safely.
Yes. Most conferences include a sponsors’ meeting where questions can be answered, policies clarified, and connections made with other sponsors. Sponsors are also provided with a light breakfast, coffee, and lunch.
Training & Resources
Yes. Colorado MUN holds fall training sessions (this year on September 13 and September 20). These sessions are strongly recommended for new sponsors and teams as well as all beginning delegates and experienced delegates who want to serve as Presiding Officers at future conferences.
